Doctor Who Series 11 News

It's been quite a while since my last post and a LOT has happened since!

Trailers
There has been 2 trailers released so far, with the second one feeling better to me but both have got my excited for the new series.

By looking at the trailers and knowing anamorphic lenses are being used in Series 11, it looks as if the series will be in the 2:1 aspect ratio. This means the image is twice as long as it is tall.
However, Trailer 2 has a 2.35:1 aspect ration but it has been confirmed to be 2:1 and can be seen in a preview clip posted on the official Doctor Who YouTube channel.

This aspect ratio is becoming popular on many high-budget TV shows, such as House of Cards, The Crown, Stranger Things and The Handmaid’s Tale. It gives a cinematic look and feel on a typical 16:9 screen, without covering too much of the frame like 2.35:1 (a common aspect ratio for films).

Speaking of cinematics, the new series is looking beautiful from the trailers. The cinematography, grading, special and visual effects are all fantastic. This really gives the show a fresh look and feel, giving the show the high quality it deserves.

Here's some examples from Trailer 2:

Air Date and Time
So it has been confirmed that Doctor Who Series 11 will premiere on Sunday 7th October at 6:45pm on BBC One.

This has received mixed opinions as it may help increase viewing figures, especially amongst families but will mean fans in countries like Australia will have to watch it on Monday.

Theme Song
Segun Akinola is the composer for Series 11. The theme song is being kept quite secret but apparently features samples from the original 1963 theme song, which sounds very interesting.

However, it is also said that the theme song will not be featured in the first episode as you'd normally expect it to. It is, however, hidden throughout according to people who attended the press screening.

TARDIS
We've seen quite a few more pictures of the new TARDIS police box since my first post.
  • We are almost certain that the Pull To Open sign is pressed metal that has then been painted.
  • The Police Box signs are a black material with the letters cut out and a soft light behind.
  • The windows are a clear fluted plastic or glass with white and warm light panels slotted behind them. The different colour temperatures are used at different times to give a different effect.
  • The lamp has a blue light.

Merchandise
Now onto new merchandise being released for Series 11.
Character have already released a new Sonic Screwdriver toy as well as a 10" doll of the 13th Doctor, featuring fabric clothing, much like the old 12" figures.

Weirdly, a US company called Seven20 is also releasing their own Sonic Screwdriver toy for the US market. It comes at a higher price but features 2 working buttons as well as a spinning emitter.

However, it is not known whether this is a featured in the show. Also, the Seven20 version appears to have an unusual wood-like texture which I don't personally believe is accurate to the prop
